Introduction

This policy provides a guide to the acceptable use of the Wi-Fi network and associated internet access provided by Hartington Village Hall (HVH) to hirers of the hall.

HVH provides access to the internet via a Wi-Fi network which it will make available to hirers of HVH without additional charge.

HVH will not provide any technical support for this system nor guarantee availability, speed of service or a continuous connection.

This policy will be made available as part of the booking process to all hirers, it is expected that hirers are familiar with the content of this policy and accept the conditions of use as part of the booking process. Hirers should use reasonable endeavours to ensure any users of the Wi-Fi and Internet during the relevant hire period are made of aware of and understand this policy.

Should any condition of use not by met by the Hirer, HVH reserves the right to remove access to the Wi-Fi and Internet.

Conditions of use

  1. Access to the internet via the Wi-Fi service is provided free of charge to the hirer by HVH.
  2. Hirers must not turn off the Wi-Fi and Internet service at any time.
  3. Hirers must not use the internet facilities for:
    1. Unlawful or illegal activity,
    2. Commercial purposes, unless authorised by the HVH Committee,
  • Uploading computer viruses, carrying out hacking, uploading/downloading defamatory, offensive or illegal material,
  1. Breaching confidentiality or intellectual property rights,
  2. Interrupting the provision of service to others.
  1. HVH does not provide any technical support for the system, or attached devices,
  2. HVH does not guarantee availability, speed of service or a continuous connection, nor guarantee that hirers’ devices will work successfully at the hall,
  3. HVH is not responsible for the purpose to which hirers put their devices or the content of any websites visited. HVH does not take any responsibility for any malware, viruses, hacking or other unwanted effects on hirers’ devices – hirers must protect themselves from such effects,
  4. It is therefore the hirer’s responsibility to set the security, privacy and content access levels on personal devices, and it is the hirer’s responsibility to install internet security, antivirus and firewall software on all devices to prevent unauthorised access to personal data,
  5. Where appropriate, it is the hirer’s responsibility to monitor children’s access to the internet during their time of hire,
  6. HVH will not collect any personally identifiable information when providing these facilities. Our systems may collect technical information from hirers’ devices necessary to provide access to the internet, which may be logged to detect crime or where necessary to block access from a specific device. HVH will allow access to such information to any relevant authority as required to check for infringements of the law,
  7. In using HVH Wi-Fi access to the internet, hirers agree to indemnify both the HVH and its Trustees against all liabilities, claims, losses or damages (including legal fees and other expenses) that may arise as a result of their connection to the village hall’s Wi-Fi.
